Handmade cutting board. 12" x 17" x 1 1/4" thick. The wood is White Oak and Purple Heart.

I begin each cutting board by selecting the best pieces of hardwood and arranging them in a way that looks nice. I use waterproof wood glue to bond each piece, and tightly clamp the pieces together for 24 hours. After 24 hours, I cut the board to the final size and started sanding. I began with 80 grit sandpaper to remove excess glue. After that, I use 220 grit sandpaper to smooth all the surfaces. I use the router to cut a 45 degree chamfer edge to the top, and I hand sand the bottom edges to remove the sharp edge. Lastly, I use 320 grit sandpaper to make the surface silky smooth.

After sanding, I apply a couple of coats of food safe mineral oil to all surfaces. This not only enhances the beauty of the board, but also protects the board from knife cuts. After removing any excess oil, I apply a couple of coats of food safe butcher block conditioner. This will protect the board from any water damage.
